The School of Fashion Communication of Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology is the first school named after “Fashion Communication”. Founded in 2017, its current dean is Ms. Sally Wu, deputy director and host of Phoenix Info News Channel. Based on the fashion industry chain and fashion communication system, the four majors of fashion communication, advertising, photography and fashion performance were integrated into the brand new school and expanded into four departments to cultivate the interdisciplinary and comprehensive leading talents in fashion communication. It offers 4 bachelor degrees in the above areas and 2 master degrees in Fashion Communication and Fashion Performance Studies. Each major has more than 10 years of history and in the year of 2017 were all absorbed into the newly established School of Fashion Communication, jointly committed to the fashion communication education emerging worldwide.
The school of fashion communication takes BIFT's orientation and goal of building a world- class fashion university as its general principle, grasps the broad development prospect of the emerging discipline of fashion communication, and is dedicated to being a leader in global fashion communication education relying on the fashion industry and cultural creative industries. Based on the Chinese cultural tradition and thoughts of creative works, the school takes the achievements of contemporary art, design, information, science and technology as carriers, and features interdisciplinary education, to integrate the four majors in the school and link up fashion, culture, industry and business etc. A complete fashion communication system is being formed under the collaborative innovation and resources sharing via talent training plans, course system and teaching-learning practice platforms among the four majors under the guidance of the school decision-makers. It aims to cultivate creative and responsible talents with rich knowledge background, broad vision and professional skills, creativity and responsibility, including fashion promoters, culture critics, media workers, admen, artists and professional models, who will be the center of the entire fashion industry.
Fashion is generated by communication, and fashion communication has always played a pivotal role in the center of fashion industry and commerce. From fashion journalists, editors, critics, curators, to fashion models, advertising models, photographers, stylists, art directors, fashion show producers, filmmakers, from adman, copywriter, public relations experts, to fashion bloggers, social activists, digital marketers etc., the School of Fashion Communication of Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology will guide students to equip themselves with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, creative, empathy and the awareness of exploring the frontier, to be able to carry out creative fashion communication planning, design and execution. And they will become important boosters to promote fashion concept, fashion culture and fashion lifestyle and to improve the aesthetic and taste of Chinese people.
